Production Blog: A Film From Home
Today was my second day of filming for my film! My group and I had planned on filming the indoor scenes after school today, however, there was a problem. I had no ride to get to my filming location, so I had to create a backup plan. Since I am playing "The Newscaster," I had one scene to film, and it was by myself. I rode the bus home from school and immediately started thinking about my costume and script. I am on the debate team, so I had a black blazer and slacks to use as my costume. From there, I picked out which footwear I wanted to wear, which were black low heels. I was planning on using a microphone as a prop, but sadly, since I was on such short notice I was not able to find one on time for filming. I set up my set design in my living room by moving the chairs and tables out of the way so that I would be standing in front of a blank wall with a piece of art, like a real newscaster. After spending half an hour memorizing the script, I finally had it memorized to perfection and was ready to start filming. I had my little sister stand on a chair to film me at an eye-level angle. Since I do not have a high-quality camera, my only option was to use my iPhone 11 to film. I needed to set my laptop next to my iPhone so I was able to practice the scene with the script in front of me. After I filmed many shots of the same scene, I sent it to my group members, and they picked out their favorite shot. I then helped guide my fellow group members, through a facetime call, and told them how to screen mirror my video onto their television. These steps were to save my video to my group members' camera roll, and then open the photos app, and swipe down and click the button that says 'screen mirror'. When my group members filmed the opening scene of my film, the news scene that I had shot from my house was projected onto their television. This was to portray Ashley and her mother watching a shocking news story. I have really learned from this experience because I needed to create a backup plan on my own, by working with my group to make sure the film is perfect. I also needed to improvise with my filming crew so that I was able to get a clear shot of my scene.
